Privacy policy
Lola is a pet health and care app. It is built to keep your information on your phone.
The short version
- No account and no server. Lola has no sign-up and no backend. The app doesn't send us your data, and we never sell it. Lola has no ads, no analytics and no tracking. (If you email support, see "Contact".)
- Your data stays on your device, with two exceptions you control: your phone's own backup, and backup files you choose to export.
- The only connection Lola makes on its own is to check Expo's servers for app updates, and only on Wi-Fi. That check contains none of your pet or personal data.
What Lola stores, and where
Everything below is stored only in Lola's private storage on your device:
- Your pets' profiles: name, species, breed, birth date, weight, photo, and emergency notes (such as allergies, conditions and medications).
- Care entries: meals, medications, vet visits (including clinic names, visit reasons and follow-up dates), weights, Checkups & Comfort results, and any notes you add to them.
- Reminders.
- The name you enter for the Home greeting (optional).
- Your app settings, such as the timeline retention period.
You can edit or delete any of it in the app. Deleting the app deletes this data from the device; copies in your device backup are covered below. Lola can also remove old entries automatically, based on the timeline retention setting.
Device backups (Android and iOS)
Like most apps, Lola's data is included in your phone's own backup, if you have it turned on:
- Android: Android Backup to your Google account.
- iPhone: iCloud Backup, or a backup to your computer.
These backups belong to you, your phone's backup settings control them, and we can't access them. They can let you get your pet records back on a new phone. Google and Apple encrypt them, but how depends on your settings: Android backups are end-to-end encrypted when your phone has a screen lock; iCloud backups are end-to-end encrypted only with Advanced Data Protection turned on; computer backups are encrypted only if you turn on backup encryption.
Copies in your device backup stay there after you delete Lola, until that backup is deleted or expires, and may be restored if you reinstall Lola. To keep Lola's data out of them, turn off device backup in your phone's settings.
Backup files you export
Settings → Export data creates a file (lola-backup-<date>.json) with all of the data above, including photos and the greeting name, so you can restore it on another phone. Lola doesn't send this file anywhere. You choose where it goes through your phone's share menu (for example email, a messaging app or cloud storage). The file is not encrypted, so treat it like any other personal document.
App updates (Expo)
Lola uses Expo's update service (EAS Update) to deliver fixes without a full app store release. When the app starts on Wi-Fi, it asks Expo's servers whether a newer version exists, and downloads it if so. That request carries technical information about the app version and build, a random identifier created for this installation of Lola (not linked to you, your account or your pet data), and, like any internet request, your device's IP address. It contains none of your pet or personal data. Expo uses it to deliver updates and may count update requests; see Expo's privacy policy.
Permissions
- Notifications: to remind you about care tasks. Reminders are scheduled on your device. A notification shows the reminder's category and title (which may include a medication name) and, for a single pet, the pet's name, so it may appear on your lock screen, depending on your phone's notification settings.
- Photos and camera: only when you choose or take a pet photo. The photo is copied into Lola's private storage.
Lola doesn't use your location, contacts, microphone or advertising ID.
Health information
Checkups & Comfort gives general guidance about your pet. It is not veterinary advice, and the information you enter about your pet stays on your device like everything else.
Children
Lola is not directed at children. Through Lola itself we receive no personal data from anyone; if you email us, see "Contact".
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics or tracking, and loads nothing from other sites. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, processes technical information about each visit (such as your IP address and browser type) to deliver the pages and protect the site from abuse; see Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Beta testers
If you ask to test Lola before it's released, we use the Google account email address you send us only to add you to Lola's tester list in Google Play Console, which Google stores, and to send you the invitation. We remove it from that list when you ask or when testing ends.
Changes
If Lola ever starts sending data off your device, we will update this policy and the app store privacy details before that version is released.
Contact
Questions about this policy or about Lola: support@lolacare.app. Privacy requests, such as asking us to delete your emails: privacy@lolacare.app.
If you email us: we receive your email address and whatever you write or attach, and use them only to answer you. We don't add you to any mailing list or share your message with anyone, unless the law requires it. Email sent to our lolacare.app addresses is forwarded by Cloudflare (Email Routing) to our mailbox, which is hosted by Google (Gmail), so Cloudflare handles the messages in transit and Google stores them, each under its own privacy policy.
We delete support conversations from our mailbox, including our replies and any attachments we saved elsewhere, no later than 12 months after the conversation ends, and sooner if you ask. Please don't send backup files or detailed pet health information unless we need them to help you; if you do, we delete that whole conversation as soon as your question is resolved. After we delete messages, Google may keep them for a limited time under its own policy (for example, in Gmail's trash or backups), and Cloudflare keeps limited delivery records (such as sender, recipient and time) under its own policy.
